SMMTwebinar informs industry about NAIGT report

SMMTheld a webinar for industry executives about government’s response to the New Automotive Innovation and Growth Team (NAIGT) report, announced 12 November 2009.
Over 120 attendees joined the online event, aimed at all businesses involved in the automotive sector, which featured an in-depth discussion about the impact of the NAIGT report.
During the webinar, SMMTchief executive, Paul Everitt, highlighted the impact NAIGT will have on businesses and the opportunities it presents. Mitchell Leimon, head of automotive innovation and growth at the Department of Business, Innovation and Skills provided insight into government’s response to the report.
Following the NAIGT’s recommendations, government has committed to create an Automotive Council, co-chaired by Lord Peter Mandelson and NAIGT chairman Richard Parry-Jones, to oversee the development of a new strategic approach to the sector.
The Automotive Council will outline specific provisions for the Supply Chain Council, providing strategic support for automotive research and development and an ultra-low carbon demonstrator programme called Test Bed UK.
