SMMTInternational Update August 2024
14 Aug 2024

After a year of significant investment from industry and government, the UK has underlined its place on the global map as a leading location for automotive companies to do business. Heightened international interest is one of the reasons SMMThas been so incredibly busy these past few months, hosting a succession of inward delegations where, inevitably, discussions have focused on the UK’s journey to a future of greener energy, manufacturing and trade.
I’m pleased to say those discussions will only accelerate in the second half of 2024, with SMMTin the final stages of preparation for a sold-out pavilion at in September. There are more opportunities to get involved, however, with similar events in in , , and coming soon. If you’re interested in any of these markets – or indeed would like to make use of 91ÖÆƬ³§¹ÙÍø’s expertise, data and industry contacts around the world – please get in touch with the International team.
Meanwhile, amid the global gathering of this year’s spectacular Olympic Games, SMMTis commencing its planning for new events in 2025, with our calendar already taking shape. It will include events and trade missions relating to electrification, mobility, aftermarket and the supply chain and, with so many established and emerging markets globally looking to decarbonise, there are significant opportunities to come for UK companies and SMMTmembers. Given the innovation and expertise of Britain’s automotive businesses, which face some of the world’s most ambitious net zero targets, we’re in very good stead to take a leading global role.
With similar and shared challenges, SMMTwill continue to help businesses to put themselves in the best possible position to exploit new opportunities arising in 2024, 2025 and beyond.
