McGill’s Group has taken delivery of 12 Yutong U11DD zero-emission double-decker buses to its fleet to run on its routes in Dundee.

The vehicles, operated by Xplore Dundee, can each carry up to 84 passengers and are powered by high-capacity 422kWh batteries.

Pelican Bus and Coach supplied the U11DD buses which come with customer-centric features such as passenger air conditioning, enhanced passenger information systems and USB charge points.

This rollout brings the total number of McGill’s electric vehicles to 121, with another 30 due this summer.

The investment includes upgrades to the East Dock Street depot to support the new fleet and was backed by £2.7m from the Scottish Government via the Scottish Zero Emission Bus Challenge Fund (ScotZEB).

McGill’s has invested £68m in electric vehicle technology since 2021 – £25m of that supported by ScotZEB.

Also, the charging infrastructure for the buses is provided by Zenobē, which is leading a consortium under ScotZEB 2 to introduce more than 250 zero-emission vehicles and shared charging networks across Scotland.
