UK government commits 拢11 million to carbon-cutting vehicle technology
14 Oct 2014UK government has committed 拢11 million of funding available to accelerate the research and development of new carbon-cutting technologies for vehicles.
The 拢11 million will be added to the Innovate UK鈥檚 Adapting cutting-edge technologies competition. The scheme offers UK businesses the opportunity to bid for funding to develop a technology which will significantly reduce CO2 emissions of road vehicles.
Transport Minister Baroness Kramer said, “This new 拢11 million for research and development shows our support to UK companies leading the way to cleaner and greener transport technologies. They are investing in more efficient transport, and that is the best way to drive our economy forward.
“By 2040 we expect virtually all new cars and vans to be using carbon-cutting technology and we want to see as much of this as possible designed and built here, in the UK, delivering economic as well as environmental benefits. We are already a world leader in this field and we must invest more resources to maintain our edge.”
The 拢11 million funding is part of a 拢500 million investment announced earlier this year, which will be used to support the development and use of ultra low emission vehicles in the UK between 2015 and 2020. Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg outlined how this would be used to convert the national fleet to lower emission vehicles, as well as including 拢100 million dedicated to industry-led R&D.
