New Cosworth factory to employ world-leading tech
8 Nov 2013Cosworth鈥檚 new聽engine manufacturing facility will house some of the world鈥檚 most advanced technologies when it starts production in 2015, according to CEO Hal Reisiger.
The 鈥榗entre of excellence鈥, which is expected to create around 270 jobs as a result of around 拢19 million聽investment, will assemble sophisticated high-performance engines for a number of global brands.
Chief among the new tech will be a unique-to-UK Flexible Manufacturing System (FMS), which will enable the production of different engines 鈥 whether they are V6, V8 or V12 鈥 on the same assembly line with a simple electronic re-programming, rather than a more complex re-tooling operation.
Hal Reisiger, CEO, Cosworth Group Holdings Ltd, said, “Cosworth aims to be an exemplar for British engineering companies, applying lean processes and marketing to create demand for products and services.
鈥淭he FMS line, christened Jubilee to coincide with Cosworth’s 50th anniversary in Northampton next year, will machine high integrity metals and complex alloys that require significant expertise to achieve accurate, reproducible products. It will enable Cosworth to produce some of the world鈥檚 most advanced engines for a number of the most recognised high performance vehicle manufacturers.”
